House of Zakat and Waqf Uganda (HZWU) is a non-denominational and not for profit organization set up to manage and administer Zakat (obligatory dues) and preservation of Waqf (endowment) in accordance with the teaching of the Holy Quran, Hadith, Consensus and Analogy for the social wellbeing of Muslims and development of Islam.

House of Zakat and Waqf will identify correct beneficiaries and projects which maximizes benefit to the Muslim community and distribute the Zakat on priority basis.

Vision

A modern fast growing Muslim community in Uganda committed to live the Islamic way of life including payment of Zakat regularly, establishing and preservation of Waqf.

Mission

To develop the capacity of HZWU as a credible institution which simplifies the collection and distribution of Zakat as guided by the Quran, Hadith and General consesus.

Legal Status

House of Zakat and Waqf, Uganda is a Charity Organization which is registered as a Company limited by Guarantee and having no share Capital in accordance with the laws of Uganda.

Why establish House of Zakat and Waqf, Uganda?

The establishment of such an organization is a responsibility of a Muslim state. In a non-Muslim state the responsibility lies on the shoulders of a Muslim.

If the leadership fails to fulfill its responsibility because of weakness or lack of credibility, then every Muslim who has the capacity is deemed responsible.

Allah Says: Quran 3: 104

Meaning:

Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al- Maruf (Islamic monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful.

Basing on the above Quran injunction and other relevant injunctions and prophetic Traditions, we decided to take up this undeniably challenging responsibility.
